What is “Better Living Through Chemistry”?

Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer.

–Dave Barry

Okay, it’s a funny quote, but it’s a serious topic.  Our bodies are assailed every day by a flood of chemicals from our food, water, and air.  A plethora of websites already exist to expound upon the impact of synthetic estrogens in the water supply, mercury in vaccines, teflon in our omelettes, and MSG in everything that comes in a box, bag, or pouch.  Still more sites talk about how to “cleanse” the body, detoxify the system, or go all natural and organic, in order to reclaim the health stolen from us by our exposure to nutritionless foods and noxious contaminants.

Best Weight Loss PillsRather than add to the fray with this site, Room2Eat.com reflects an entirely different approach to restoring health.  In fact you might say, since I couldn’t beat them, I joined them–“them” being the chemical-hawkers of the world.  Within these pages, I take it for granted that we’ve all breathed, swallowed, or absorbed our fair share of mind- and body-altering substances (with or without our complicity), and now we need to know what else we can throw into the mix to return our systems to a state of youthful vibrancy, or at least, passable mediocrity.

I plan to cover a variety of substances, both prescription and OTC, that have varying degrees of efficacy for all our favorite complaints–weight, hair, sleep, pain, blood sugar, blood pressure, libido, etc., but in a way you’ve never quite seen them before.  That is, you’ll find hard scientific facts, from the perspective of a trained and unbiased statistician, rather than feel-good Big Pharma hype or politically correct USDA/FDA/AMA propaganda.

As Mr. Barry says, not all chemicals are bad.
